Self-exclusion is a process that allows a person to voluntarily request to be excluded from legalized gaming activities within the District of Columbia under the Office of Lottery and Gaming’s (OLG) jurisdiction for a pre-determined length of time and to be prohibited from collecting any winnings, recovering any losses or accepting complimentary gifts or services or any other thing of value from an OLG-licensed facility, retail location or mobile wagering platform.
How do I get placed on the Self-Exclusion List?
You may enroll in the Self-Exclusion Program by completing and signing, in person, an OLG Self-Exclusion Application. For more information and to schedule an appointment, contact the OLG’s Responsible Gaming Program Specialist at 202-788-2102.

Does it cost anything to get placed on the Self-Exclusion List?
No, there is no cost.
Do I have to complete the Self-Exclusion application in person?
Yes, the application must be completed and signed in person at the Office of Lottery and Gaming, 2235 Shannon Place, S.E., Washington, DC 20020.
What do I need to bring to the Self-Exclusion appointment?
You will need to bring a valid government-issued identification that includes your signature and your photograph – e.g., a driver’s license, passport, or other identification.
What kind of information is on the Self-Exclusion Application?
The Self-Exclusion Application requires the following identifying information:
- Name, including any aliases or nicknames
- Address of current residence
- Primary telephone number
- Email address
- Date of Birth
- Social Security number
- Physical description, including height, weight, gender, hair color, eye color and any other physical characteristic that may assist in identification.
- Government-issued photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport
You will also sign the Self-Exclusion Application and have your photograph taken. That photo, and other identifying information, will be distributed to OLG’s designated agents and licensed and contracted operator for the proper administration of the Self-Exclusion List and/or Self-Exclusion database.
Can I place a family member or friend on the Self-Exclusion List?
No. A person cannot place another person on the Self-Exclusion List. Placement on the list is entirely voluntary and must be done by the individual seeking exclusion.
May I bring someone with me when I apply for Self-Exclusion?
Yes, you may bring someone with you for support, but the interview and signature on the application must be completed privately with the OLG designated agent. This ensures that your information remains confidential and your rights are protected.
What happens once I register for Self-Exclusion?
Once you register, you will be voluntarily excluded from entering any of the designated gaming areas of OLG-licensed sportsbooks and lottery retailers. You cannot place wagers, receive or use complimentary goods or services, participate in promotions, be a member of a rewards or players club, or collect winnings or recover losses at any OLG-licensed sportsbook location, on any licensee’s associated wagering website or wagering mobile application, at DC Lottery headquarters, at a licensed DC Lottery retailer, DC Lottery-operated or sponsored websites or DC Lottery-operated mobile application within the District. Also, OLG-licensed sportsbooks and the DC Lottery are to remove your name from their direct marketing lists.
To reduce the temptation to return to one of these gaming locations, their websites, and/or mobile applications, all of your reward points will be forfeited, players club memberships closed, and targeted mailings, telemarketing promotions, player club memberships, and other promotional materials sent to you via mail and electronically will be suspended.
Can I go to other areas other than the designated gaming areas of OLG-licenses sportsbooks and lottery retailers if I am on the Self-Exclusion List?
Yes, you may be inside of the designated gaming areas of OLG-licensed sportsbooks and lottery retailers, but not in areas specifically devoted to sports wagering or other forms of gambling under the OLG’s jurisdiction.
Will I be contacted by the OLG while I am on the Self-Exclusion List?
After successful enrollment into the Self-Exclusion Program, the OLG, and its licensees will not contact you via phone, email, or standard mail regarding your exclusion. However, you may reach out to the OLG at any time should you have questions about your enrollment by calling 202-788-2102 or by emailing SelfExclusionProgram@dc.gov.
Who can access the Self-Exclusion List?
The OLG takes privacy very seriously and protects your sensitive information using only secure procedures to share information necessary to implement the Self-Exclusion Program with its licensed operators.
If I am on the Self-Exclusion List, will my name be released to the public?
Your name and all other information will remain confidential and will not be released to the public, including your family and friends.
How long will I be on the Self-Exclusion List?
Your choices of terms of exclusion are: one (1) year, eighteen (18) months, three (3) years, five (5) years or a lifetime exclusion.
You may select the lifetime exclusion only if your name has previously appeared on the OLG Self-Exclusion List for at least six (6) months.
Can I extend or reduce my term of exclusion?
You can renew or extend the term of exclusion period at any time, but you cannot reduce the amount of time once you have selected it.
What happens if I violate the Self-Exclusion agreement?
If you are identified as an excluded person at a licensed facility or location under the OLG’s jurisdiction, you will be refused entry to or ejected from areas specifically devoted to sports wagering or other forms of gambling and must forfeit any money wagered, losses, or winnings. This includes withholding of any money or thing of value that has been converted to a wagering instrument including things like tickets, vouchers, prizes, non-complimentary pay vouchers, electronic credits on a mobile wagering system or any other implement of value representing a prize won from gambling.
How can I be removed from the Self-Exclusion List?
Upon completion of your selected duration, you may request removal from the Self-Exclusion List by participating in an exit session with an OLG-designated agent. Your name shall remain on the list after the expiration of the selected Term of Exclusion until request for removal is approved by the OLG in accordance with the Office’s rules and regulations governing Self-Exclusion.
How do I schedule a Self-Exclusion exit session?
You may schedule a Self-Exclusion exit session by contacting the OLG’s Responsible Gaming Program Specialist at 202-788-2102. At this time, all exit sessions must be conducted in person.
Can I re-enroll in the Self-Exclusion program?
Yes, you may re-enroll into the program as many times as you would like. To do this, please schedule an appointment with the OLG’s Responsible Gaming Program Specialist.
