“Doing it for DC!” Local Man is Powerball’s First Millionaire of the Year Finalist
$1 Million Drawing Broadcast on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021” on ABC
Los Angeles, C.A.–Dick Clark Productions and POWERBALL® revealed today that one of the five lucky finalists in the “POWERBALL First Millionaire of the Year” promotion is a local man, Carlos Mabry from the Washington, DC area. Mr. Mabry will vie with four contestants from around the country for the chance to win $1 million in a special drawing to be held just after midnight on ABC’s broadcast of “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2021.”
“I’m doing it for DC!” says Mabry, who received a $20,000 finalist’s prize package that includes a $12,500 cash prize, deluxe surf-and-turf dinner, 70-inch LED TV, karaoke system, $500 gift certificate to Party City, and much more. A married father of two, Mabry says if he captures the $1 million prize, he intends to put the money toward tuition for his children and savings for the future. “This is already epic and can only get better,” exclaimed Mabry on his immediate windfall and the potential of becoming a new millionaire in just two short weeks.
The five finalists were selected from a pool of 482 entries from participating lottery jurisdictions including the District of Columbia and 18 states. The “POWERBALL First Millionaire of the Year,” winner will be revealed just after midnight on January 1, 2021. In addition to the live broadcast highlighting Mr. Mabry’s winning experience, the DC Lottery encourages audiences to follow his winning experience using #DCforTeamCarlos and #RockinEve.
POWERBALL tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a POWERBALL ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold.
Since its inception in 1982, the DC Lottery has awarded more than $3.8 billion in prizes, transferred more than $2.14 billion to the District's General Fund which supports essential services in the District, and has helped local nonprofits raise more than $134 million in support of social causes.
